Education, BA (Hons)

The BA Education is a research-informed three-year course that supports the development of the knowledge and skills needed for a wide range of careers in the field of education, and beyond. Education is an important area of study that draws on the disciplines of psychology, sociology, philosophy, and history, and includes a range of topics including education policy, teaching and learning, wellbeing, child development, additional learning needs, equality and social justice, and digital education.

Course Overview

Our BA Education is designed to equip students with a solid grounding in contemporary theories and concepts that are informed by a strong research base. Students will develop essential research skills and graduate with the skills required to think critically about education and apply their knowledge in real-world settings, in educational contexts and across the wider world.

Why Education at Swansea?

Students will be based on the stunning Singleton Park Campus, in parkland overlooking Swansea Bay on the edge of the Gower Peninsula. Throughout the programme, students will have the opportunity to explore educational practice in the digital age, learn about historic and contemporary education policy and practice, discover different styles of leadership and management, gain an understanding of what education looks like in different countries, examine issues relating to additional learning needs and wellbeing, and study different theories of child development, learning, and teaching.

Entry Requirements

We consider all applicants on their own merits and welcome applications from students with a wide range of qualifications. The typical offer for this course is BBB-BCC at A level, and students will also need to meet the University's English language requirements.

How You're Taught

At Swansea, students will benefit from a high-quality, research-informed education that combines a range of effective and inclusive teaching methods, carefully tailored to suit the needs of the course. Most courses are taught in person, on campus, giving students the opportunity to actively engage with other students, academic staff, and the wider university community.

Welsh Provision

There are opportunities for Welsh speakers to study some elements of this course through the medium of Welsh, but there is not yet enough provision to reach 40 credits in each year. Academi Hywel Teifi at Swansea University and the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol offer a number of generous scholarships and bursaries for students who wish to study through the medium of Welsh or bilingually.

The tuition fees for this course are:

• UK students: Ł9,535 per year
• International students: Ł19,950 per year

Additional Costs

Students may face additional costs while at university, including travel to and from campus, printing, photocopying, binding, stationery, and equipment costs.

The Careers and Employability Team will support students at each stage of their career journey, helping them build a bright future. The team offers employability workshops, employers' talks, bespoke events, and careers fairs, as well as individual advice and guidance from professionally qualified Careers Advisers.

Academic Support

As well as subject-specific support by college teaching staff and personal tutors, the Centre for Academic Success provides courses, workshops, and one-to-one support in areas such as academic writing, maths and statistics, critical thinking, time management, digital skills, presentation skills, note-taking, revision, memory, and exam techniques.
