Introduction to the Bachelor Program in Communication Science

The Bachelor of Science in Communication Science is a three-year English-taught program that concludes with the title of Bachelor of Science. Upon completion, students can directly proceed to a master's program, such as the Master's in Communication Science at the University of Twente, or choose to enter the workforce.

Year 1

  • Module 4: Design for User Experience - Explores how technology can influence human behavior, using insights from social psychology and new communication technologies to create persuasive interactions with target groups.

Year 2

  • Module 5: The Network Society - Examines the role of new media in society, discussing the characteristics of the network society and how the digital world is shaped by social, economic, and political forces.
  • Module 6: Lead the Change - Investigates how organizations can be optimized in the face of innovation, focusing on leadership, organizational identity, decision-making, and change management.
  • Module 7: Persuasive Design - Looks at how design can influence human experiences and behavior, considering the underlying dynamics and processes that enable design to drive behavioral change.
  • Module 8: The Quantified Self - Explores the impact of digital innovation on individuals and society, including the generation and analysis of big data and its implications for future services and business models.

Year 3

  • Modules 9 & 10: Electives - Students choose modules based on their interests and ambitions, which can include following courses from other UT bachelor programs, studying abroad, internships, or pre-master programs.
  • Module 11: COM @ Work - Provides insight into the student's skills, interests, and the field of communication science, including trends, developments, and typical functions of communication science graduates.
  • Module 12: Bachelor Thesis - Involves independent research on a relevant topic of interest, including literature research and data collection, culminating in a thesis and a presentation.

Admission Requirements and Study Progress

  • The program follows the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), with each year requiring 60 ECTS credits.
  • Students must achieve at least 45 ECTS credits in the first year to progress to the second year, along with meeting program-specific requirements.
  • A binding study advice (BSA) is given at the end of the first year, which can be positive or negative based on the student's performance. A negative advice means the student must leave the program.
