Program Overview

Program Overview

The Aerodynamica van vliegtuigvleugels masterclass is a comprehensive program designed for students interested in aerodynamics, physics, and engineering. This program aims to provide students with a deeper understanding of aerodynamics and its applications in the field of aviation.

Masterclass Details

  • Duration: The masterclass will take place over four sessions on Thursday afternoons during weeks 47, 48, 49, and 50.
  • Dates: November 20, 2025, November 27, 2025, December 4, 2025, and December 11, 2025.
  • Time: 13:45 - 16:45 hours.
  • Theme: Engineering & Design.
  • Location: Campus Universiteit Twente.
  • Costs:
    • Pre-U partnerschool: 95 per student.
    • Non-partnerschool: 125 per student.

Program Content

The masterclass will delve into the world of air flows, lift, and drag, teaching students how aerodynamics affects the flight of an aircraft. Students will learn the basic principles of aerodynamics, work in small groups to design a wing that will be printed and tested in a wind tunnel, and analyze different wing materials. The program will include theoretical lessons, design software usage, experimentation, data analysis, and presentation of findings on an academic poster.

Requirements and Prerequisites

  • Required Subjects: There are no specific required subjects for this masterclass, but an affinity with natural sciences and mathematics is beneficial.
  • Related School Subjects: Physics, mathematics, and research & design.
  • Related Profile: N&T (Nature and Technology).

Expected Outcomes

After completing this masterclass, students will be able to:

  • Describe what aerodynamics is and its applications.
  • Explain the aerodynamic forces acting on a wing and how they are generated.
  • Discuss how the shape and position of a wing influence the aerodynamic properties and performance of an aircraft.
  • Explain the use of dimensionless numbers in aerodynamics.
  • Design a wing profile and conduct measurements in a wind tunnel.
  • Draw conclusions from the measured values for their own wing design.

Program Structure

The program is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of aerodynamics, with a mix of theoretical and practical sessions. Students will have the opportunity to work in small groups, design and test their own wing profiles, and present their findings. The program will be led by experienced instructors who will guide students through the learning process.
