Introduction to the Program

The MSc in Wireless and Microwave Communication Engineering with a Year in Industry is a two-year full-time program designed to produce postgraduate specialists with essential expertise in electronic and microwave engineering. Admissions Criteria

To be considered for the program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• A 2:2 honours degree in a relevant degree subject, such as communication engineering, communication technology, electrical or electronic engineering, or wireless engineering
• A copy of the degree certificate and transcripts
• A copy of the IELTS certificate with an overall score of 6.5 with 5.5 in all subskills
• Additional evidence to support the application, such as signed and dated employer references, if the applicant does not have a degree in a relevant area

Course Structure

The program is presented as a two-year full-time Master's level program, in two stages. Stage 1 consists of two semesters of taught modules to the value of 120 credits. Stage 2 consists of an industrial placement of 8 months, leading to the submission of a portfolio of work to the value of 120 credits.

Year One

In Year 1, students follow two semesters of taught modules to the value of 120 credits. The modules include:

• Software Tools and Simulation
• RF Circuits Design and CAD
• Research Study
• Advanced Communication Systems
• HF and RF Engineering
• Advanced CAD, Fabrication and Test
• Microwave and Millimetre-Wave Integrated Circuit Design and Technology
• Micro- and Nano-engineering

Year Two

Year 2 consists of the industrial placement and dissertation. The School of Engineering expects the placement to normally last for around 8 months. During the placement, students will be visited by their Academic Project Supervisor at least once, but preferably twice, if they are based in the UK.

Learning and Assessment

The program is assessed through examinations, written coursework, and a final individual dissertation, coupled with a portfolio of 60 credits each. Achievement of learning outcomes in the majority of modules is assessed by a combination of coursework assignments and University examinations.

The tuition fees for the program are as follows:

• Home status: £12,200 per year
• Overseas status: £30,700 per year
