M.Phil. - Ph.D. in Cultural Studies

The M.Phil. - Ph.D. in Cultural Studies is a research-based program that aims to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in cultural studies.

Admission Information

Candidates for admission to the program should meet all qualification criteria of the University Graduate School. All applicants should submit a research proposal. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed as part of the admission process. Academic qualifications, research ability, work experience, references, and language abilities will be taken into consideration.

Application Materials

After submitting an online application, applicants are required to upload scanned copies of the following supporting documents to the Online Application System for Postgraduate Programmes by the deadline.

• Copies of certificates of academic/professional qualifications
• Copies of official transcripts and grading schemes of all tertiary level studies
• Proof of English language proficiency
• Confidential recommendations/referee’s report
• A photocopy of Hong Kong Identity Card or other identity document
• Research proposal
• A writing sample

Study Period

For M.Phil. programs, the normative period of study is 24 months for full-time students and 36 months for part-time students. The academic year consists of two terms, starting from September and ending in August of the following year. Awards of Postgraduate Studentship

Postgraduate Studentship (PGS) is a form of financial assistance provided to full-time postgraduate students registered in research degree programs. Holders of such studentship are not employees of the University. The provisional monthly stipend for Postgraduate Studentship is $19,100. Students receiving PGS awards are expected to assist in the teaching and research work of the department to which they belong. Their duties will be assigned by the Department Chairperson.
