Course Content

1. History of Chinese Folk Arts I (20 hours, Theory)
   • Explores the concept, development, and transmission of Chinese folk arts
   • Introduces various folk crafts, such as painting, paper-cutting, and embroidery
2. Survey of Chinese Decorative Patterns (20 hours, Theory)
   • Examines the history, evolution, application, and cultural significance of Chinese decorative patterns
3. Folk Art: Folk Painting and Printmaking (20 hours)
   • Introduces the artistic forms and basic techniques of Chinese woodblock printing, New Year paintings, and peasant paintings
4. Folk Art: Knitting and Dyeing (20 hours)
   • Teaches the types and basic techniques of Chinese knitting and dyeing
5. History of Chinese Folk Arts II (20 hours, Theory)
   • Continues the exploration of Chinese folk arts, focusing on ceramics and sculpture
6. Folk Art: Paper Cutting and Crafting (20 hours)
   • Introduces Chinese paper-cutting, paper carving, and shadow puppetry
7. Folk Art: Ceramics Making (20 hours)
   • Teaches the basic knowledge and production techniques of Chinese folk ceramics
8. Folk Art: Sculpting and Carving (20 hours)
   • Introduces various Chinese sculpting techniques, such as wood carving, bamboo carving, and stone carving
9. Local Folk Art and Inheritance (40 hours)
   • Examines the types, cultural background, and transmission of Hong Kong's folk arts

Admission Requirements

• Completion of secondary education or equivalent
• Or, aged 21 or above

Tuition Fee

• Total tuition fee: HK$46,280
• First installment: HK$30,850 (payable before commencement)
• Second installment: HK$15,430 (payable after 9 months)

Assessment and Award

• To be awarded the Diploma in Chinese Folk Arts, students must:
  • Attend at least 70% of each unit
  • Pass all units
• Assessment methods include written assignments, reports, artistic creations, and class participation
