Introduction to Controversies in Women’s Health 2025

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) presents an innovative educational program, Controversies in Women’s Health 2025, designed to address the unique needs of women patients and healthcare providers. This program aims to provide a practical update on common but controversial issues in women’s health, emphasizing new developments in preventive care, reproductive health, and clinical strategies for diagnosing and treating gynecologic and medical disorders.

Program Overview

• Increasing appreciation of the unique needs of women patients and healthcare providers has created a need for innovative educational programs on women’s health.
• The program will provide a practical update on a full range of common but controversial issues in women’s health.
• Emphasis will be placed on new developments in preventive care for women, issues in reproductive health, and clinical strategies in the diagnosis and treatment of common gynecologic and medical disorders of women.

Target Audience

• This course is designed for family physicians, internists, gynecologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, and all others involved in providing quality healthcare for women.

Onsite and Remote Learning Options

• The course will be offered as a live conference with the option to attend in person or tune in remotely via Zoom live stream during programming hours (Pacific Time).
• Login instructions, along with the digital syllabus, will be shared with attendees before the meeting.
• Included in the registration fee is access to the course recordings on demand after the conference and for 30 days after the course.

Objectives

The purpose of this course is to increase competence and improve clinician practice in women’s health. Specific objectives include:

• Discussing and implementing new guidelines for prevention and early detection of cancer in women.
• Discussing and implementing new vaccine guidelines to prevent common infections in women.
• Preventing, diagnosing, and treating common and controversial problems in women's health.
• Diagnosing and treating common skin conditions in women.
• Counseling patients about best practices in contraception and abortion.
• Understanding the clinical implications of adverse pregnancy outcomes on future cardiovascular risk.
• Addressing common clinical issues of older women.
• Managing sexual issues in women.
• Optimizing patient communication and shared decision making.
• Developing best practices to address health disparities and care for vulnerable patients.
• Improving interprofessional teamwork and collaboration.
• Advocating for quality healthcare services for all women.

Accreditation

• The University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
• Physicians: UCSF designates this live activity for a maximum of 13.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
• Family Physicians: The AAFP has reviewed UCSF Controversies in Women's Health 2025 and deemed it acceptable for up to 13.50 Live AAFP Prescribed credit(s).

• Physician Assistants: AAPA accepts category 1 credit from AOACCME, Prescribed credit from AAFP, and AMA PRA Category 1 Credits from organizations accredited by the ACCME.
• Pharmacists: The California Board of Pharmacy accepts as continuing professional education those courses that meet the standard of relevance to pharmacy practice and have been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
• Interprofessional Continuing Education Credit (IPCE): This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 13.50 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits for learning and change.
