Climate Risks and Resilience in a Warming World

Course Information

This 8-week CPD course introduces the concept of risk in the context of natural meteorological hazards in a changing climate. The impacts of climate change on different sectors are explored and engineering responses to these impacts are examined.

Participants will learn not just how climate change will impact society, but also how we can assess the risk and decide how we should respond through a combination of practical exercises, written material and lecture content. Learners will be well equipped to propose, assess, and apply sustainable adaptation strategies in a range of key settings.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Understand the key risks and vulnerabilities that climate change poses to society and infrastructure, and why a comprehensive, integrated response is crucial.
• Identify practical adaptation strategies, including engineering solutions, for managing climate-related hazards in critical areas.
• Understand how national and international policies influence climate change response efforts.
