In this programme, you will:

• Address the use of healthcare technologies as a key challenge in society, appreciating policy and practice contexts that surround healthcare technology and service transformation.

• Bring an awareness of user considerations, barriers, and facilitators to healthcare technology utilisation to your area of professional practice to improve healthcare experiences and outcomes.

• Identify potential opportunities for improvement in your own professional practice, outline steps for implementation, and processes for evaluation.

• Comprehend the importance of innovation and leadership in healthcare technology development and implementation to successfully effect change.

• Communicate, using appropriate methods, to a range of audiences with different levels of knowledge or expertise to influence engagement around healthcare technologies for professional practice.

How you’ll be taught

The programme is delivered part-time and fully online, as part of our Global Online suite of programmes. You can choose from two start dates (September and January) and will take 3 years to complete. You will study 6 modules in total, consisting of one module per trimester.

The virtual learning environment, Moodle, is facilitated and moderated by academic experts in the field of study thus providing opportunities for you to discuss, critique, and synthesise evidence.

Assessments

Formative and summative assessments are used to evaluate your learning against the module learning outcomes. Formative feedback is provided to guide you on how you are progressing and to give constructive guidance to inform development for your final summative assignment. Summative assignments take the form of authentic assessments and include reports, literature reviews, presentations, and technology appraisal.

Within each trimester, whilst there is flexibility to work through the material at your own pace, you need to be aware of the assessment dates as there is no flexibility in these.

A standard module is equivalent to 200 hours of learning and on successful completion of each module you will achieve 20 credits towards your chosen award (two modules on this programme are worth 40 credits). You will also carry out an independent dissertation research study either through undertaking a literature review, a small-scale primary research study, or writing a substantial research proposal that has the potential to be taken forward to doctoral study. The final dissertation is equivalent to 600 hours of learning, to gain 60 credits towards your masters’ degree.

Entry requirements

Year 1

The entry requirement for this course is a Bachelor (Honours) Degree at a 2:2 or above in a subject related to nursing, midwifery, or allied health professions (e.g., Occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, radiography.

We may also consider lesser qualifications if you have sufficient relevant work experience within the industry.

English language

If your first language isn't English, you'll normally need to undertake an approved English language test. The English Language requirements for this programme are IELTS (Academic) with an overall score of 6.0 with no individual component score of less than 5.5.

Modules for your course can be purchased through our online store and must be paid in full at the time of enrolment. You will purchase modules in advance of each trimester of study. The fee listed above applies to 20 credits. Please note, the full course comprises of 120 credits in total for BA/BSc (top-up) and 180 credits in total for MSc.
