Are you interested in social issues or questions about conflicts, discrimination, asylum and refugee policy? Are you passionate about freedom of expression or children's rights? Whether you want to work with human rights locally or globally, this is the course for you.

About the Program

The bachelor's program in human rights is a three-year education that combines different ways of thinking about and understanding human rights. You study the subject from historical, philosophical, social science and legal perspectives, so that you can examine and understand the different parts that human rights consist of. The program covers both local and global issues and you will learn more about equal treatment, non-discrimination, violence and accountability. During the education, you study human rights both as an idea and in practice.

The program offers both broad subject knowledge and deepening. During the first three semesters, you gain broad subject knowledge and develop methodological skills by planning and implementing projects, both individually and in groups. You are faced with questions such as:

• What are human rights?
• Who has human rights?
• Where do human rights come from?
• How are human rights protected and realized?
• How can human rights be studied scientifically?

During semester 46, you specialize in a subject that interests you. You can choose optional courses in Sweden or abroad, or choose to do an internship. In the last semester, you first immerse yourself in a theme and then you choose your own specialization by writing your thesis.

During the Training

The teaching consists of lectures, seminars, role plays, group work, workshops and presentations in groups or individually. Before lectures and seminars, you read the literature that the teacher refers to. The good thing about being prepared is that you can ask the teacher questions during or after the lecture if something is unclear or unclear. Before the seminars, you will be given a text to read and/or a question to answer, which will then be discussed in a small group. You take part in current examples to make the subject alive and relevant. We believe in an open and supportive climate and offer professional and personal study guidance throughout your education.

Career and Future

After the program you have solid knowledge to work with human rights. You know how to search for information, analyze, write and argue. The program provides a bachelor of philosophy degree in human rights and you can choose to start working immediately or continue your studies at an advanced level.

You can work in a municipality with, for example, accessibility issues, equal treatment plans or democratic participation, or within government agencies such as the Swedish Migration Agency, SIDA and the National Education Agency. Your work may be about Sweden's representation abroad, such as within the EU or the UN, or work within a global, regional or local MR organisation. You can also work with corporate social responsibility (CSR) both in Sweden and internationally.

• Eligibility: Basic eligibility + History 1b or 1a1+1a2, Social Studies 1b or 1a1+1a2. Or: History level 1b or level 1a2, Social studies level 1b or level 1a2
• Selection: Places are distributed according to: Grade: 66%, University entrance examination: 34%. The university has decided to use valid university entrance examination results as the discriminating criterion in the event of equal merit.

Prerequisites

• Free of charge for citizens within the EU: You who are citizens of a country within the EU/EEA and Switzerland pay no registration or study fees.
• Tuition fees for citizens outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland:
  • Total price for the program/course: SEK 375,000
  • First payment: SEK 62,500
  • Citizens of a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland must pay tuition fees. The fee is paid in one round in advance before each semester.
• Registration fee for citizens outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland: In addition to the program or course fee, you need to pay a registration fee of SEK 900 when you apply. The fee is paid once, regardless of how many programs or courses you apply to during the coming semester. The fee must be paid for your application to be complete.
