Introduction to the Developing Practice in Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies Module

The Developing Practice in Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT), Administration and Care module is designed for practising, registered nurses working in SACT administration roles. This module enables learners to critically evaluate and demonstrate competency in the management and care of patients with solid and haematological tumours receiving systemic anti-cancer therapies.

Module Details and Indicative Content

This module allows learners to evaluate critically the decision-making, risk assessment, and therapeutic intervention in relation to the management and holistic care of the patient receiving SACT. Learners will examine critically the professional policy, health and safety regulations, and legal aspects relating to the administration of systemic anti-cancer therapy.

Assessment Components

The assessment components provide learners with the opportunity to critically evaluate their own service, focusing on service improvement, while demonstrating competency in the safe delivery of systemic anti-cancer treatments through completion of the SACT Passport. There are three summative assessments:

• A practical assessment completion of the SACT passport (or evidence of prior completion)
• A 3,000-word written assessment critical analysis of current practice in relation to service improvement need and potential improvement strategy
• A 20-minute verbal presentation on the topic of service improvement need and potential improvement strategy

Placement Requirements

A placement may be required to support learners with completion of the SACT Passport, which can be undertaken in their place of work or at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. A minimum of 75 hours supernumerary must be completed as part of this placement.
