Introduction to the Foundation to Physiotherapy Program

The Foundation to Physiotherapy program is a year-zero foundation program designed for mature students who have been out of formal education for some time or have taken non-traditional qualifications. This program leads to access onto a Physiotherapy BSc program.

Program Details

• The program is specifically targeted at Home mature and non-traditional students.
• Students seeking entry to Physiotherapy will study year zero at Carmel College, St Helens, before joining year one at the University of Liverpool campus.
• The program is not available to international students who require a visa to study in the UK.

Course Content

The course content includes:

• Skills needed for independent study at undergraduate degree level
• Undertaking a variety of learning methods and assessment tasks
• A breadth of patient-focused practical experience in a region with a particularly diverse population
• How to diagnose and holistically treat a wide variety of clinical problems
• Academic and professional skills

• HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE FOR HEALTH SCIENCES (HEAL007)

Teaching and Assessment

• Learning is promoted through a wide variety of activities that enable students to become autonomous and continuous learners.
• Interactive lectures, practical and clinical skills group work, simulation, directed study, role play, problem-based learning, small group work, student-led seminars, collaborative project work, and interactive tutorials are key learning strategies of the program.
• Assessment methods include seen and unseen written examinations, essay assignments, multiple choice questions, case study presentations, video analysis, and interactive practical examinations.

Careers and Employability

• A Physiotherapy degree from the School of Allied Health Professions and Nursing can set students up for a rewarding and challenging career in a diverse range of professional environments.
• Many graduates choose to work in the NHS, but others may decide to find employment in industry, private practice, sport, research, or teaching.
• Physiotherapy graduates are eligible to apply for membership of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

Fees and Funding

• Tuition fees for UK students are ｣9,790 per year.
• The University offers a range of scholarships and bursaries to help students pay for their studies.
• The Liverpool Bursary is worth up to ｣2,000 per year for UK students with a household income below ｣35,000.

• Applicants should normally be considered ineligible for direct entry to the BSc route.
• Qualifications and exam results required for entry include:

  • GCSE: Minimum grade 5(C) in Maths, English Language or English Literature, and Science
  • BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma: Not accepted
  • International Baccalaureate: Not accepted
  • Irish Leaving Certificate: Not accepted
  • Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher: Not accepted
  • Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced: Not accepted
  • Graduate application: Considered if the applicant is returning to education following a break
  • Access: Not accepted
