NPQLT: National Professional Qualification for Leading Teaching

The NPQLT is a program designed for teachers who have, or are aspiring to have, responsibilities for leading teaching in a subject, year group, key stage, or phase.

About the Programme

The UCL Centre for Educational Leadership looks forward to working with participants on their newly designed NPQ, supporting them to deepen their knowledge of Leading Teaching within a collaborative and open learning environment. The program is based on the latest research and evidence, enabling participants to take their new learning and develop their skills, putting them into practice.

Participants will learn about:

• School culture: strengthening their ability and that of their colleagues to contribute to a school culture in which pupils can thrive and succeed.
• Teaching: supporting teachers at all levels in their school to develop their knowledge and classroom skills in leading teaching.
• How pupils learn: deepening their knowledge of the best ways to develop, adapt, embed, and practice good models of learning across the whole school community.
• Subject and curriculum: supporting and improving high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment in their subject or phase.
• Implementation: implementing change successfully within their context by understanding the stages of implementation and applying them with the support of facilitators and colleagues.

This program is suitable for those responsible for any aspect of leading a subject, year group, or phase, or those aspiring to lead teaching in their context. Please note that the NPQ programs require a level of proficiency in the use of English equivalent to that of Master's level study.

How Long Will It Take?

The program lasts 12 months, followed by an eight-day open-book summative case study task.

When Will It Start and How Much Will It Cost?

The program starts in November 2025, with an induction conference taking place in November/December 2025. The program fee is £885 (+VAT) for participants and schools in England who are required to self-fund.

Programme Route Map

The program consists of three modules, each lasting four months, with a final assessment preparation phase. The modules include self-directed study, facilitated activities, and peer learning groups.

Module 1

• Self-directed study: 8 hours
• Peer Learning Group 1: 3 hours
• Formative Assessment Tasks: 1 hour
• NPQ Mentor Check-in: 1 hour

Module 2

• Self-directed study: 8 hours
• Peer Learning Group 2: 3 hours
• Formative Assessment Tasks: 1 hour
• NPQ Mentor Check-in: 1 hour

Module 3

• Self-directed study: 8 hours
• Peer Learning Group 4: 3 hours
• Formative Assessment Tasks: 1 hour
• Consolidation Conference: 5 hours

Final Assessment Preparation

Participants must ensure 90% engagement and access to the assessment platform. The final summative assessment is an eight-day open-book case study task.
